BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA or botulinum toxin) is a prescription medicine that is injected into the facial muscles which control functions such as squinting and furrowing the brow. It is used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe crow’s feet lines and frown lines between the eyebrows, by relaxing the underlying muscles. When this muscle tension becomes diminished, the result is a smoother, more vibrant skin tone.
In the early 1990s, a Canadian ophthalmologist noticed that patients with eyelid spasms who received botulinum toxin treatment were also beginning to lose their crow’s feet lines. By the late 1990s, the protein had become a hugely popular treatment for reducing the signs of aging, marketed as BOTOX® Cosmetic.

What to Expect
The process of receiving injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic is fast and painless. Dr. Parker may use a light topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort during treatment. Next, tiny amounts of the drug are injected into the areas you wish to treat. Within a few days of treatment, you will begin noticing that wrinkles and fine lines have softened, giving you a rested, refreshed appearance. You will see the full effect of the product in about 14 days. You can expect the effects of botulinum toxin to last 3 to 4 months. After that time, most patients decide to undergo additional treatments to continue enjoying the reduced signs of aging.
